Don't sulk if you can't get into Esca across the street: This venerable bistro went modern under chef Bruce Beaty (whose lively flavors reflected stints with Alfred Portale and Gilbert LeCoze). We feel miles from Ninth Avenue in the quirky all-weather courtyard garden. Lemon custard seals the deal. Grab a honey madeleine and catch that curtain.

Stumbled upon this great bistro on our way to the Westside Theatre. We didn't have a reservation so we sat at the small bar and shared the Arugala Salad with Asian Pears and Lamb and Veal Rigatoni for lunch. Wonderful...Read More
