Profile

This venue is closed.

The tin ceiling, clay-colored walls, decorative fireplace, riverside mural, and sidewalk tables give this Soho corner a relaxed, gone fishin' feel, while its spirited menu descriptions feature Provencal-inspired seafood "frolicking," "swimming" and "charmed" by sauces. Though the flavors might not be quite that puckish, they—and the restaurant's name—hint at what to order. All eyes follow red snapper in papillote as the huge, puffy bag makes its way through the dining room and the tableside cutting sends chunks of the extremely moist, caper-kissed filet and colorful julienned vegetables tumbling out. Pepper-crusted seared tuna, laced with lemon, makes a lively companion to an arugula salad; a selection of oyster varieties, from malpeques to bluepoints, taste just off the boat; and a sweet, slightly acidic gazpacho floats discs of grilled scallops that add a hint of smokiness to the cool soup. There are a few dishes for those not fond of fins, like duck breast and rack of lamb, but the best non-aquatic item is the fruit tart, which is particularly wonderful if it's strawberry time: a sturdy, buttery crust topped with plump berries and drizzled with sabayon cream.
