Profile

It's not cheap, but you won't quite believe someone will walk Italian food this good right to your door. The osso buco is rich and unctuous and even comes with a sprig of sage planted in the marrow. The spaghetti with meatballs is fresher and livelier than anything you've had at a standard red-sauce joint. The fish dishes are wonderful. Pay attention when the long list of specials is rattled off; they're always interesting.

I've been going here for years and have enjoyed every visit. Their calves liver and onions on polenta is not only one of the best deals around, it transports you to Northern Italy. And I can never resist the profiteroles for dessert. Now that I no longer live in the city, every trip back I make it a point to go here. It's not the fanciest or best known, but always at the top of my list. (And I've never had anything but the best service.)

Good value guaranteed

The cozy bar which you enter from the 20th street where they serve full dinner is my favorite place to enjoy a glass of wine and a simple meal during the week. Their seasonal special fish dish is worth checking out. My personal favorite is the salt baked Branzino. No frills, but they do an excellent job of serving flaky and moist fillets you will want to come back for.
