Longtime chef Sottha Khunn has surrendered his whisk to new top toque Pierre Schaedelin. While the chef transition has been less than smooth, as usual, it's hard to notice amid all the circus-like commotion. Who cares if the duck confit was a little dry? Even from the hinterlands of deepest Siberia—table No. 49, between the kitchen and the bar— there's no better place to view all the characters in the strange New York zoo. The new $25 prix-fixe lunch makes the circus especially appealing.

Le Cirque NYC & Las Vegas

Le Cirque 2000 is a great restaurant to experience at least once. The food/decor/service is as one would expect for a highly rated restaurant. Le Cirque in Las Vegas pales in comparison, and believe it or not, is more expensive than its sister in NYC. All in all, a pleasant evening, but with so many outstanding restaurants in NYC, a repeat visit is unlikely.

A sad reminder of greatness

Sirio the Great is now old and tired, and so is his food, and so are his waiters. Go here for the incrdibly whimsical decor and occasional flashed of fine food, but things can get rocky very fast, with refrigreated lobster salad that chills the teeth, pot au feu that is squishy and soggy, brusque wait staff that ignores you, cramped tables up front...oh well. The branch in Las Vegas beats the mother ship by a mile.
