Profile

From the team behind hummus spot Mimi’s and the Castello Plan comes Lea, a bright and breezy trattoria doling out brick-oven pies and Naples-inspired dishes. Named for the owner’s family matriarch, the spotless restaurant features a generously sized bar fashioned out of redwood beams reclaimed from a water tower and a street-facing patio for alfresco dining. To start, the best bets include the crostino topped with plump, creamy lima beans, stewed overnight in the restaurant’s wood-fired oven, and crispy paccheri stuffed with basil-flecked ricotta parmesan. While pies please with creative topping combinations such as punchy caper-sage-anchovy and cured pork jowl-chili-pecorino pizzas are a bit lacking owing to a watery marinara and slices with floppy, crepe-thin centers. For dessert, the millefoglie, which is constructed of wispy sheets of housemade filo and topped with freshly whipped cream and seasonal berries, is light enough to split even after the heaviest meal.

Reservations only accepted for parties of 4 or more.
