One of the hottest stops in Union Square when it opened back in 1995, the Lemon has lost much—if not all—of its star status, yet it still manages to pack 'em in due to its prime Park Ave. S. location. Boasting one of the most spacious interiors in the area, the Lemon offers patrons a variety of dining and drinking options. Sip cocktails and people watch in the open-air café, tackle a three-course meal in the dining room, or cozy up to your sweetheart in the low-lit upstairs lounge. Although the eclectic menu has an Asian twist, it leaves much to be desired in terms of originality, so stick with staples such as the lightly batter-fried calamari, steamed shrimp dumplings or crispy spring rolls for starters. Entrees like herb-roasted chicken with spinach and mashed potatoes or tenderly grilled New York strip steak served with potatoes au gratin are hearty enough, especially when complemented by the house signature apple martini.
