Located in the Roger Smith Hotel, Lily's feels more like a suburban bar than a midtown dining option. Up front, smudged red walls, rattan armchairs, black leather stools, and a small TV dominate an alcove where nine-to-fivers load up on salted edamame and pomegranate martinis post-work. An adjacent space serves as the main dining area, though it’s only open for breakfast and lunch—dinner is served in a bigger room behind it. The evening menu is a random assortment of small plates—spring rolls, wings—passable with the right cocktail. But there isn't enough vodka to distract from a bland dish of seared sirloin and soggy fried onions or fishy salmon tacos. Better to come in the afternoon, when a heartier lunch menu prevails with sandwiches and salads, and entrees like seared lamb chops and wild mushroom risotto.
