A secret to many who don't live in the Bronx, City Island manages to hold onto its small-town feel, complete with tree-lined blocks and an actual main street; the Lobster Box shares the relaxed atmosphere of the community. Less flashy than the neighboring Lido, the joint offers comfortable, softly lit seating with amazing views of the Long Island Sound. Seafood always seems to taste better with a view of the water and these guys, in business since 1946, know their crustaceans—specialties are nicely steamed Maine lobsters and soft and juicy Alaskan King and Snow crab legs. The seafood pasta dishes are piled high with lobster and shrimp, and for land lubbers, the BBQ ribs are sweet and saucy. The hunks of cornbread that come with the breadbasket make a memorable extra—dense and cakey with warm whole kernels of corn.
Recommended DishesLobster & BBQ baby back ribs, $36.95; Alaskan king crab legs, MP
