Sitting in northern Tribeca in the former Pane Panelle space, Los Americanos has the look and feel of an energetic and dimly lit retro diner, complete with a yellow and green checkered floor, red tables, and banquettes along the walls. The kitchen here is far above your average diner, though, turning out clean, fresh Latin American fare with a few daring additions. Traditional dishes like reina pepiada arepas—Venezuelan corn cakes filled with chicken and avocados—are hearty, savory and deliciously seasoned. The Peruvian style octopus ceviche marinated in lime, choclo, and red onion is light and refreshing. From the larger plates menu, the mixed grill of grilled skirt steak, blood sausage, chorizo, and delicately fried sweetbreads is unique and well-balanced. Cocktails from behind the wooden bar stocked with colorful bottles are creative and run the gamut from sweet to stiff, and an extensive list of tequilas, mezcals, and rums are on hand if you’re in the mood for something simpler.Recommended Dishes
