This Lower East Side spot could be described as an indoor hot dog stand. Most of the laid-back crowd opts for takeout, though a bench along the mirrored wall allows you to sit and stare at the mass amounts of chipotle kraut that will inevitably get lodged in your teeth. Whether you choose to eat in or order out (delivery is available until 4:15 a.m. on weekends, and there’s no minimum charge), these perros (Spanish for “dogs”) won’t disappoint. Hot-dog connoisseurs and drunk patrons alike devour all-beef Colombian wieners, which you can order with authentic Spanish ingredients … or more American toppings like Dorito crumbs. Heaped with Sriracha Pico de Gallo, chipotle kraut, ChipZana sauce, salsa verde, queso cotija, and crushed Fritos, the Mexi-Max is a flavorful treat that will leave you considering an all-hot-dog diet. For a larger meal, try the less innovative but no less delicious hamburgers. You can choose from three beef- and short-rib-blend burgers, grilled to order. The El Puerco, topped with smoked ham, deep-fried bacon, chicharones, melted swiss, and ChipZana is juicy and extra carnivorous. Los Perros Locos will satisfy late-night drunk eating cravings, but it’s just as good in the afternoon, stone-sober.Recommended Dishes
