Profile

This venue is closed.

A well-heeled crosstown cousin of the more casual but spiritually similar Gennaro, which is operated by owner Luca Marcato's best friend, Gennaro Picone. The two worked together at Malvasia, and Luca served as the best man at Gennaro's wedding. Luca is more genteel and sedate (of the restaurants, not the men), with a warm glow about the whole place. What's more, Luca takes reservations, whereas Gennaro is first come, first served. Luca has the better wine list and, food-wise, is both a little more ambitious and a little more expensive.

luca used to rock---when they first opened up, ages ago, the food was great (antipasto, especially). but frankly, while the room is too loud--always was--and the service is strictly minimum wage, but there's no reason why they can't recapture the spirit and ambition they displayed in the beginning. perhaps it's tired. it's played out. bottom line: there's simply no reason to go there, anymore. maybe their new incarnation, planned for the near future, will bring some magic to this clearly UNmagical outpost on an unmagical stretch of first avenue. hope so.

Very impressed

I went to Luca's on a thursday night and besides the fact it was a little crowded and noisy i had no complaints. I went with 3 others and we all loved our dishes, I had the seafood risotto and it was delicious. Our service was excellent and they had a very nice wine list. I would definitly recommend and already am planning to go back.
