Profile

Former Tao executive chef Sam Hazen teamed up with La Dolce Vita Hospitality (LDV) to form Sam Hazen Management (SHM); their first project, Lucy’s Cantina Royale (no relation to the shuttered Lucy Latin Kitchen), is clearly designed to pack in as many after-work revelers as possible, with surfboard-inspired communal tables and a bamboo bar. It’s adjacent to another LDV operation, Local West, and like that pub, it has an elaborate 200-seat rooftop outfitted with hammocks and tiki huts to replicate a Baja surf cantina. Hazen's Tex-Mex menu features baja sliders, garlic-cilantro pork and a pollo a la limon wrap (chicken wrapped in a whole wheat shell with roasted peppers, avocado and mango salsa); on the liquor side, sample any number of 80 types of tequila -- just don't accidentally stumble to the LIRR in Penn Station on your way home.
