Profile

A pair of Brooklyn caterers took their comfort-food menu public with Luscious Food, which aims to sate the neighborhood’s bottomless appetite for gourmet takeout with three-cheese mac-and-cheese and sandwiches constructed from upmarket ingredients like San Francisco’s Molinari salami and Royal Crown bread.

Their food is really good, but something about the physical plant of the store is daunting and off-putting. I'm not sure why, but I often walk out of there not having ordered things that I really thought I wanted - maybe it's the weird assortment of random dried goods in the back, or the fact that the food behind the plexiglass looks a bit slapdash, like it just came out of the too-small kitchen in your own too-small apartment. Maybe it's a feng shui thing. But, they always have a great range of healthy, low-carb vegetable side dishes in addition to the comfort food staples they stock. The cinnamon-buttered toast is splendid, simultaneously homey and decadent.
