Nestled in the heart of the East Village’s Little Tokyo, where curry specialists and sake bars reign, this Vietnamese restaurant immediately stands out. The décor is contemporary, with a New York palette of muted black and white, a neon sign, paintings of tropical scenery, and a decorative rickshaw upfront. Like the owners, the crowd is young. During dinner, the lengthy menu features many familiar dishes and then some. There are crispy fried spring rolls with a sticky-sweet sauce, chicken wings dressed up in a tasty garlic-fish-sauce concoction, and the egg crêpe called bánh xèo. There’s also a phô, served with meatballs and rare flank, that’s on the sweeter side but nonetheless is more than satisfying especially in a town where finding a good bowl of the classic soup is never easy. Other dishes like suon kho, caramelized short ribs, ga kho gung, and clay-pot chicken maintain that meaty theme, though the owners make a conscious effort to provide dishes for the vegetables-only crowd.

Reservations are only accepted for parties of 6 or more.
