Maggie Brown has become a favorite of Pratt students and Clinton Hill locals who queue up to drink at the small bar or pick from an equally compact, bistro-influenced menu. With distressed tin panels on the exterior and vintage kitsch wallpaper inside, the restaurant smacks of earlier days on Williamsburg and Smith Street, and its cuisine has a familiar aspect as well. (While the dishes offer appealing ingredients and flavors, too often the preparations are imbalanced.) One highlight is the plate of tender ribs, which are braised in wine and served with buttery mashed potatoes, swiss chard and a fresh biscuit, delivering on the comfort that the setting advertises. — Jonathan Dixon
I went for the first time with a group of friends, we had to cram into a booth that really didn't fit all 5 of us, but they wouldn't give us the tables because they were "reserved for larger parties"?? The food took a long time but was ok. The second time I went here was for my birthday brunch. The wait time for a table was FOREVER, but I didn't mind. Once we sat at an uneven table in the gravel we waited about another 20-25 minutes and finally pulled aside the manager (?) owner (?) to ask for coffee. Finally when we ordered and got our food an hour later, I had a huge thick black hair laying across my meal. They comped the whole meal but I wasn't hungry for anything else after that. Needless to say I will never EVER be returning. Go to Madiba for better food and better drinks!
Cute place, really nice friendly atmosphere and service and delicious home cooking kind of food. I sat at the bar while I waited for my friends and had at least two different conversations with the super cute and bubbly bartender and what I assumed were regular customers. By the time my pals arrived the (limited-there are only 3) booths were all sat so we ate some (gorgeous and meaty!) wings and hung out til a table opened up. It was totally worth it and the waitress says brunch means an even longer wait...but there is a reason why people wait. It is a solid good time!
