Profile

As hipster parents munch on all things organic, barefoot little ones settle into the back area, covered in 800 square feet of bouncy foam tile, at this café-meets-playspace in Williamsburg. Co-founders Maria Laura Quintero and Mariella Salazar (a chef and a former teacher, both of whom gave birth on the same day three years ago) built a loftlike restaurant where the dining area borders the play zone, and parent diners are responsible for watching their own kids. A few hobbyhorses, a small picture-book library, and a mini school bus are scattered about, but most parents bring their own toys and formula. For those who prefer to travel light, Quintero grills up arepitas—silver-dollar-size cornmeal patties from her native Venezuela—served with cheese, butter, and avocado or chicken.

Playtime

Admission to the playroom is a $7, and families can come and go all day long. Kids can play dress up, draw on the chalkboard, or simply run around the open space. Classes for kids and their caregivers have varying prices and schedules and include baby yoga, music, and a bilingual dance class.

Birthday Parties
Mamalú is available for private birthday parties on the weekends and can arrange for everything from food and entertainment to invitations and photography.

A mom with 2 babies on the train recommended this place to me and boy was she the coolest person I met on the L or what! I really really am drawn to this place. I can actually eat my meal while my toddler tosses around and meet other moms that are exhausted by NY subway steps. There is cool classes there too, I saw a knitting for moms class- who ever heard of such a thing. Aanyways- super close to the L train Bedford stop and the Chicken Chipotle sandwich was super yummy! Oh yes, and I went home with a small bag of groceries from there organic market too- (blueberry waffles, soy milk & yo baby yogurts).
