A retro sensibility informs the furnishings and the food at Mary's off Jane. Next to an inert Magnavox television, customers sit in vinyl-covered seats while snacking on picture-perfect Bundt cakes and fluffy cream banana or coconut pies. A crowded dessert case (topped by a dozen glass-domed cakes) tempts sweet tooths with apple pandowdy, berry crumble and a flourless chocolate torte. Mojito cookies and ginger-lime scones aside, the broad selection of goodies tends toward the traditional. The cutely named Peachy Keen Pie and the mildly tart Very Cherry Pie affirm the virtues of tried-and-true recipes. A catering component permits party-planners to induce large-scale vintage sugar highs.Extra
