Profile

You'll hear the names of several classic, expensive, Midtown Mexicans bandied about, but Maya is far superior to all of them. Chef-owner Richard Sandoval (who hails from Acapulco) established his reputation at Savann, but his talent has really exploded at Maya. He combines faithfully executed Mexican classics (these are harder to find in New York than you might think) with restlessly innovative dishes that challenge the palate. The authentic decorations were custom-made in Mexico.

I've gone to Maya twice and have yet to be even slightly disappointed. Their Mango Mojito is simply delicious and I am in love with their Enchiladas de Pollo. My boyfriend ordered the Pescado a la Veracruzana (red snapper) and while I'm not a fish person, if I had ordered his dish I would have eaten every bite. The chocoflan was very decadent and I went out on a limb trying it because I'm not a fan of flan in general. You can't go wrong with anything you order! I admit I'm not a fan of their prix fixe menu because the entree options are shrimp or pork (I can't eat either), but they have an amazing menu nonetheless.

Good Mexican. Pricey.

Good decor. Food was good. Not outstanding. A bit pricey, but worth it if you are looking for good atmosphere. Would definitely go back, but am not running to do so.
