Modest Mee Thai might not be the very best Thai restaurant among Park Slope’s crowded selection, but its menu easily stands up against the area's top choices. The dining room, with track-lit beige décor, is never terribly crowded—cheap, generous lunch specials do brisk delivery business. The kitchen is admirably consistent: Salads are refreshing and crunchy if slightly overdressed with fish sauce and lime. The search for the perfect pad Thai may not end here, but noodle and vegetable entrées are well seasoned, and those drawn to extreme heat will find the staff more than ready to honor their bravery with generous doses of the house spice. A barbecued half-chicken paired with sweet tamarind chili is deceptively sharp, its big kick tempered only by mouthfuls of sticky rice and a light, creamy Thai tea. If you do dine in, the five-point appetizer plate is a convenient centerpiece for a table of two or three to spin and share: Highlights include a light-fried shrimp patty with honey dip and a set of thick, crunchy tofu chunks in duck-style sauce.
