A sort of de facto cafeteria for Stern College across the street, Mendy’s serves Glatt Kosher food to an appreciative mix of students, families, and office drones. They fress on hearty Jewish comfort food – thick split pea soup, velvety chopped liver, cardiac-inducing pastrami – in a dim, dreary dining room decorated in soporific shades of brown. Gigantic portions mean you’ll likely leave here with a bag of leftovers. Stray from the classics at your own peril; you’ll encounter stringy turkey “London broil,” soggy wraps, and desiccated spaghetti and meatballs. Desserts, all non-dairy, aren’t worth the calories.
Recommended DishesChopped liver, $9.95; pastrami sandwich, $10.95; boiled chicken in a pot, $18.95
