Profile

Can’t find the empanada lady? Pop into the cubicle-sized MapióMami crossed with Papiófor Mexican finger foods and simple sandwiches and salads. The egg-brushed, half-moon empanadas are, if a tad small, stuffed with either crumbly ground beef and onion, shredded chicken with green peppers, or spinach and mozzarella. At $2.25 each, you can afford to try all three. Basic lunch standards, like a tuna melt and a goat-cheese salad drizzled in balsamic vinegar, are perfectly adequate, while the south-of-the-border goodies show more flair. The Mexican sandwich revels in roast pork, pico de gallo, and avocado. Mapi is just a notch above a street cart but for those who want to snack on the spot, there are two chairs outside on a grass-green carpet that’s rolled up at closing time.
