This lunch stop separates itself from its midtown deli competitors with a rabbi-supervised, all-kosher menu and a loyal following among Diamond District workers. Dairy is the focus, with eggs, cheese, and fish the primary sources of protein. Sandwiches make the most of meat-free combinations; Grilled zucchini and eggplant are dressed with hummus in a flour wrap, or pesto on a sourdough onion brioche. In back, a pizza counter serves thick slices with a dry, doughy crust. Nearby steam trays hold daily entrées like barbecue salmon or tilapia in a savory Portobello sauce, served with a choice of potatoes, roasted vegetables, or rice. Pre-packaged sushi is also available, with a sushi chef on hand making fresh rolls. Breakfasts bring cappuccino and espresso service, along with a selection of hand-rolled bagels, eggs, and whitefish, sable, and nova. A small front counter holds muffins and pastries, and a plump take on the black and white cookie.
Recommended DishesGrilled vegetable sandwich, $7.95; custom salad, $9.95
