Profile

This venue is closed.

At this Sicilian spot in South Williamsburg, three massive communal tables separate two-tops and counter seating, the latter of which offers a view of pizza prep. And it’s a good view indeed: You can check out the selection of flours (organic white 00, spelt, and kamut) used by the skilled pizzaiolos to create the doughs they then slide deep into the two large brick ovens. Meat and cheese plates join the list of antipastos; the involtini di melanzane cups delicious eggplant, mozzarella, and ricotta in a small clay pot. The pastas pack impressive flavor, like the bucatini amatriciana’s thick noodles and subtle guanciale. Pizzas are perfectly thin and crispy, from the simple margherita with mozzarella di bufala to the heavily topped vegetariana (cherry tomatoes, zucchini, squash, eggplant and fior di latte). The same brick ovens are also used for the oversize prosciutto panini and ham or spinach calzones. The mostly Italian beer list is accompanied by a smooth house red Primativo. You can also buy imported oregano, olive oil, sauce, and dried pasta from a small shop in back to take home.
