Montenapo opened in the New York Times building in 2009, more than a year after we previewed the Milanese spot with a BiCE pedigree. One reason the unveiling may have taken so long: “Initially,
we had a design firm, who were a very savvy group of young people who
had great ideas. We gave them a budget of $3-4 million, and they came
back with a budget of $8 million. So without mentioning their names, we
had to terminate the relationship,” co-owner Henry Kallan tells BlackBook. According to our January 2008 preview, interior designer Studio A was in charge of the space. The restaurant is not in their online portfolio.

A friend of mine recommended this place. I had been postponing going there as my boyfriend and I just couldn't get the same free time. When we finally went it was definitely worth the wait. The service was absolutely a true reflection of the place as a fine dining restaurant. We had 3 guys waiting on us and my boyfriend was feeling great about himself for finally having taken me. The food was just up in my alley. Rich but healthy. Had the gnocchi, if they can make a simple pasta dish like that as delicious as it was - imagine the other items they had on the menu (unfortunately, i could only order 1 main dish - i mean had a bite of my boyfriend's yummy salmon). But, we both had our own dessert - me with my creme brulee and my boyfriend's chocolate souflee - liked his better! All in all, I loved our night there. That was last week and I don't know when I'll go back but I cannot wait.
My friends and I went to Montenapo last week for a mid-week "Girl's Night". The decor was beautiful and we were seated promptly. However, despite the over-the-top presentation of some dishes, the food was just ok. Many of the dishes were uninspiring and in some cases, over done. For a restaurant that likes to tout itself as having a notable chef, the food was definitely not notable. I do not normally write reviews, but for a restaurant to charge such prices and have such rave reviews is mind-boggling. I wonder who wrote them. Staff maybe? Owners? It would not surprise me because they do the same with there hotels, they write there own revues. Real sleazy. Don't bother going here unless you happen to like eating subpar food in a lovely setting.
