Profile

Morgan’s BBQ is a no-bull Texan joint that prides itself on overnight smoking to produce succulent meat that literally drips from the bone. Creedence Clearwater is on the radio, Texan flags are everywhere, and on warm evenings, you can grab a picnic table outside and circle your choices on the laminated menu. You hardly need the barbecue sauce here, though it’s excellent. The brisket is on the salty side, the pulled pork delightfully moist, and the ribs tender and hefty. You can choose fatty or lean (go for fatty), and servings come in increments of a quarter pound. The sides are decent, though the meat clearly gets the most attention in the kitchen. The coleslaw is very good—crispy without too much vinegar—and the fully loaded baked potato with bacon, cheese, and scallions is a classic done right. There is also the Elbow Room next door: a macaroni and cheese specialty stand. But you don’t come to a barbecue joint for the sides. You come for the meat, and Morgan’s delivers.
