Stroller-schlepping locals flock like—you guessed it—hummingbirds to Nectar, a juice bar and sandwich shop in Cobble Hill. The cheery but cramped café makes an inexpensive take-out alternative to the mimosa-soaked brunch spots lining Court Street. Half-sized kids’ specials, a basket full of picture books for perusal, and Ciao Bella milkshakes quiet impatient toddlers. But bustling business in a tight space translates to long waits and a claustrophobic in-house dining experience. A versatile menu with myriad salads and wraps, though, warrants patience as even simple grilled cheese comes in no fewer than eight iterations like turkey, cheddar, and butter pickle, Havarti and spinach, or feta and sun-dried tomatoes with olive-caper pesto. Carnivore fare is hit or miss; a chorizo egg wrap is one of the most toothsome items, but feta cheese overpowers spiced lamb in a Morroccan salad and cucumber sauce ruins a similar-themed wrap. For a standout drink, the Groovy Guava smoothie has a creamy texture and floral fruit taste untainted by ice or “boosts.”
Recommended DishesGroovy Guava smoothie, $4-$5; egg wrap with chorizo, $4.25; avocado and sweet potato sandwich, $6.50
