Profile

The vintage Cessna hanging from the ceiling tells you much of what you need to know: This is a place geared more toward fun than serious fare. You can easily see this in the largely open space, with its clapboard walls, dazzling bright-blue paint job, and chummy atmosphere overrun by weekenders ordering deep-fried conch fritters. These aren’t your mom’s—or Gorton’s—fish sticks. They’re prepped in the style of the Bahamas: batter cradles the morsels of white meat instead of trapping them in oil — and they’re served with a spicy mayo, as well as fresh lime wedges to cut that spice as it hits your palette. The key is to eat like you're at a bar so you won't be disappointed by mains like a deep-fried lionfish, or apps like the red-snapper ceviche that tasted mostly of the peppers surrounding the fish. Earlier in the evening, Spur Tree could provide the perfect pit stop before a night out: There are crowd-pleasing items like conch fritters and mini jerk steamed buns, plus a cocktail list that's unapologetically rum-heavy and full of delightful surprises, like the lemony zing in the Rum Dum.
