Midtown is not the first place you think of when you think of ecofriendly, possibly organic, vaguely hippieish noontime feeds. But that may be owing to the fact that you’ve never heard of Pickler & Co., a year-old, under-the-radar, mostly takeout shop plunked down smack-dab in the lobby of a fashion college, whose mission is to serve its desk-jockey clientele “worry-free” wraps, salads, and sandwiches. The meats are antibiotic-and-hormone-free; the dairy is locally sourced; the spices are non-irradiated; the cooking oil non-GMO. None of which would matter as much if the four-ounce burgers weren’t so delectable (despite their pretzel buns), the grilled cheese with bacon so rich and gooey, and the streamlined Reuben the best, if not in all of Manhattan, then certainly in midtown. Great cup of certified organic, fair-trade joe, too.
