Barrio owner Spencer Rothschild recruited former Callo Ocho chef Alex Garcia to helm the kitchen of this Latin American spot with a beach-shack motif. Standards like roasted pork, Cuban sandwiches, and spiced grilled chicken have some updated twists here, and there’s a vegetarian paella option, too. Small plateslike arepas topped with sweetly marinated lambare fun to share. A trio of shellfish sliders comes stuffed with a tangy lobster-and-crab salad, each skewered with peppers and olives. The bay scallop seviche has a pleasing sweet-and-spicy contrast, with a grape salsa offsetting the chipotle-infused citrus juices. Interesting house cocktails like a zesty mango-jalapeño caipirinha outshine the passable house sangria. The décor verges on cheesy, with whitewashed plank walls and thatched awnings over the bar and windows, but on a nice evening when the floor-to-ceiling windows are open, the conceit works.Cabana Bar
Playa shares its space with Cabana Bar around the corner, which offers daily drink specials and a smaller bar menu.Recommended Dishes
