Plaza Diner’s clientele doesn’t dine—it feeds. This place understands that comfort-food cravings have always been about mass consumption. Pork chops are cut thick; the open-faced Reuben is buried beneath a mound of dried-out corned beef and runny sauerkraut; triple-decker clubs, eggplant parm heroes, and heaps of meatloaf all come in awe-inspiring sizes. Framed prints of Corfu’s rugged bluffs (the owner hails from the Greek island) offer a visual respite from Midtown’s mayhem, but it’s really the colossal portions of unfussy home-cooking that keep this unassuming, fifty-plus-seat eatery alive.
Weekend BrunchSat.–Sun., 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
Recommended DishesTriple decker turkey and bacon; $9.50; rice pudding, $3
