Profile

This venue is closed.

Plaza Garibaldi is named after the raucous square in Mexico City where roaming mariachis serenade passing lovers, gringo tourists, and the partying masses. The similarly festive ambience that fills this spot comes as much from the live Latin dance music, the avocado- and orange-hued walls, and the mini-skirted, Spanish-speaking waitstaff, as it does from the multi-culti carnival spilling over from Roosevelt Avenue. Mexico City-style, landlocked dishes dominate, with charred, somewhat gristly skirt steaks chopped into a zesty scramble of cilantro, scallions, corn, and jalapenos, and large, cheese-stuffed poblano peppers bathed in creamy tomato sauce. The margaritas tasting of bottled mix are popular but any nighttime excesses can be remedied with one of Garibaldi's breakfast specialties, such as the chilaquiles (tortilla chips soaked in an unspicy but savory salsa verde) and fried eggs and chorizo splayed over fresh corn tortillas.

Recommended Dishes
