Pochana Thai Kitchen hits every mark of a trendy Thai restaurant: the pandan-leaf tap water, the West Elm–like design, the Instagrammable table settings, and, of course, the menu font. Yet the Astoria-based restaurant, conceived by a chef couple, is all about the (often spicy) comfort food you’d find in a Bangkok home. Starters, besides the Yao Wa Raj dumplings and Pochana spring rolls, are skippable, so stick to the menu’s family-recipes section, complete with standout dishes like the Bangkok Duck Noodle, a soup bowl simmering with duck wings, rice noodles, and vegetables, and the Bang Saen Pad Cha, a seafood cornucopia of shrimps, calamari, and mussels, with traditional Thai taste. Also of note is the Bo-Lan pad Thai, a common go-to that’s particularly memorable here. Finish the meal off with the Thai street coconut ice cream.
