A spiced up American grill with an international mish-mash of flavors, the cavernous and softly lit Porters has a darkly modern, jazzy sensibility. Like an edgily designed cruise ship, the room is decorated with alternating drapes and floor-to-ceiling lacquered-wood panels hung with cylindrical orange lamps. While the menu spans typical New American standards like organic greens, char-grilled chicken, salmon, and rib-eye steak, dishes often include bright or earthy touches: fig port sauce for the steak, a soy molasses glaze for the chicken, a coconut crust on the salmon. Ordinarily tame roast chicken is here given zing with a tart-sweet red apple and cranberry sauce. Desserts are standard crowd-pleasers: tiramisu, apple pie and crème brûlée. A plant-filled garden in back accommodates summery dining within faux-rustic, chiseled stone walls.
