Profile

How grand can a steakhouse get? If you took a meat-and-potatoes guy who liked to hang out at the Art Student's League, gave him a few years at Princeton, and financed his Wanderjahr abroad, he might come home and open the Post House. It's clubby but not snooty, with a collection of Americana spiced up with a Christo here and a Twombly there, and a well-traveled menu that includes everything from a Cajun rib steak to venison medallions (daily special).

Recommended Dishes

Cajun rib steak, $48.50; sliced steak, $46.50

GOOD SERVICE, POOR STEAKS

We went there on a crowded Wednesday night. We were seated promptly and the service was very good. The chicken was very good, but the steaks were not as we expected from such a nice place. Rather than complaining and embarrasing our guests, I called the manager a few days later, explaining the isues and he was VERY ready to help us the next time we are in NYC. Desserts were presented very nicely and were of high quality. I get around into restaurants all over and this has got to be just a fluke as the place looks like a nice restaurant and has MANY patrons. I WILL give it another chance.
