One thing to know about P.S. Kitchen is that it donates all its profits to charity. It’s a noble exercise that, given the priciness of dishes, feels like the most compelling reason to give it a visit. An appetizer of glazed, roasted, and sautéed carrots was not as enjoyable as the orzo alfredo, made with cashew cream and sun-dried-tomato-chili paste with an intense savoriness that trumps nuance. Buffalo hen-of-the-woods mushrooms were intriguing and come with creamy cashew dressing and unappetizing blue blobs later determined to be a soy-based blue cheese. The two biggest draws? A burger made with the hyper-realistic Beyond Meat patty, which has garnered curiosity from vegans and meat-eaters alike, and the fact that vegan restaurants are still few and far in between in midtown.
