Profile

This venue is closed.

The interior of this Murray Hill cafe suggests an address much further down Third Avenue: A tall, narrow space, dimly lit by wall sconces, is dominated by a long, imposing bar of dark wood, and culminates in a small, absinthe-colored dining area. Despite the studied chic and the retro Euro soundtrack blaring in the background, there’s something unassuming about Push. In addition to its potent, bountiful coffee drinks and cocktails, the café provides a small, select menu of appetizers, sandwiches, and entrees mostly more humble than haute -- but all beautifully prepared. While they carry standard lunch fare like burgers and wraps, most options are Mediterranean. Highlights include the elegantly symmetrical Labane appetizer goat cheese wedges and veggies served with herbed, oiled flatbread and the Bourekas, soft, mild feta cheese melted in a phyllo blanket, and served with a truckload of fries. The portions are as notable as the presentation, and the chocolate soufflé with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream, decorated with rick-rack drizzles of chocolate sauce, is ample for two.

Recommended Dishes

Labane platter, $8.50; Push salad, $8.50; bourekas, $9.50
