It’s not often that you discover beef tripe soup or oxtail to go at your local corner deli—especially in the West Village. Yet that’s exactly what you’ll find in this spacious, blond-wood-accented bodega. Inside the store, renovated in 2006, customers navigate aisles of convenience items and pick up everyday staples. But the reason to come to this strictly takeout spot lies behind the counter, where super-size sandwiches are loaded with prosciutto and Genoa salami, and Latin American dishes are cooked up to feature on the rotating menu of daily specials (Thursday is goat stew, Tuesday cow-feet soup). And though you can certainly satisfy your egg-and-cheese ritual at Ray’s, why would you?
Recommended DishesRotisserie chicken, $10; Italian sandwich, $5.99
