At the vegan and vegetarian Red Bamboo Brooklyn, pseudo-meat comes in endless variations, often topped by a sauce that's frankly overly sweet. Despite that, the restaurant has snagged a primarily dreadlocked clientele with a hankering for the citrus “beef” with asparagus. Bamboo accents around the bar and on the ceiling of the first floor lend a Southeast Asian feel, while the upstairs dining room, with glittery glass-ball chandeliers and gorgeous wood details, is so lovely you may not quibble about the food. In fact, why not go for a cocktail? The Sorrel Mojito is a winning blend of homemade sorrel syrup, fresh mint, limes, and rum.
