Profile

The most striking aspect of Remi is its soaring space and tasteful décor. Despite a lot of Italian vocabulary on the menu, however, the cuisine here seems mostly domestic. (Much of what's on offer would seem at home on the menu of Union Square Café.) Grilled striped bass and country-style free-range chicken, for example, are well done but not exactly the exclusive product of the Emilia-Romagna district. Catering primarily to a Midtown business clientele, Remi’s service is professional, although when the restaurant is at capacity it can be imprecise.

Great choice if you are looking for a reasonably priced (but nice) midtown business dinner location. Pricier and blander than I'd recommend for a real night out, though may be OK for a group. Everything straight down the middle. Suggest getting a corner or side table as it can get noisy.

We went there for lunch quite by accident -- just happened to walk by and it looked ok. The food was delicious -- three of us split three appetizers: artichokes, fresh sardines, and scallops. All three were really unusually good. I had a lovely salad and my friends split a pasta (of which I had a bite -- also lovely). We split two desserts, tiramisu and the lemon mousse cake. Tiramisu was fine and the lemon cake was really, really good. I read these other reviews saying the food was only ordinary and I can't believe they ate at the same restaurant. We were there quite recently (St. Patricks Day 2008).
