Wet Hot American Sandwiches, living the legend since 1970.

2901 Emmons Ave., Brooklyn, NY, 11235

Known For

The lowdown

Imagine that Gray’s Papaya decided to go after Arby’s and hired the team behind Coming to America’s McDowell’s. That’s Roll-N-Roaster. This Sheepshead Bay legend, founded in 1970 by Buddy Lamonica, is an exemplary example of fast food done right. The staff, bedecked seemingly in the joint’s original brown ‘70s-era uniforms, serves up burgers and gravy-soaked turkey and roast-beef sandwiches on freshly baked Kaiser rolls. Lines of patrons grab tables in the cafeteria-like space or take the food to go. Thin-crust pizzas are the sleeper hit, and sandwiches taste best with specialty sides of sweet corn fritters, or fries topped with hot Cheez Whiz. After all, as a sign reminds customers, “You can have cheez on anything you pleez.”
