Since opening a half-century ago, Roxy Delicatessen has been setting the standard for Times Square tourist traps. Giant cheesecake displays? Checkered floors? Celebrity caricature drawings? Triple check. There's even a sky-blue ceiling peopled by angels and a portrait of Charlton Heston exhorting customers to "EAT AT ROXY’S." Well, why not? The dishes carried by the beleaguered, be-suited servers are piled high with burgers, turkey platters, and sandwiches. Wait a minute. When dining like a tourist, think like a tourist: Order indigenous offerings such as the sky-high, hulking, one-pound pastrami sandwich and the homemade cheesecake, which lives up to the hometown stereotype.
Splitting EntréesDiners sharing plates get charged $7 each.
Recommended DishesPlain New York cheesecake, $9.95; hot pastrami sandwich, $16.95
