Profile

Theatrical décor (in what might be Auntie Mame's duplex during her high mah-jongg period) and imaginative (and very good) cuisine make these cavernous spaces pre-theater favorites both in Times Square and near the Beacon Theater. Culinary emperor Steve Hanson woos kids with his dim sum assortment of noodles, sushi, spare ribs, and other Pan-Asian favorites—plus a PB&J roll. Request a table with a lazy Susan and eat family-style. And regardless of where you sit, you have to walk down the Mamescent staircase at least once. Screaming "Live! Live! Live!" is optional.

The Best Pan-Asian Restaurant in Manhattan

The best food I have ever eaten would have to be at Ruby Foo's in Manhattan. This is the best Pan-Asian restaurant in the world! The coconut sticky rice is out of this world. So is the sushi. I think in the time I lived in NYC, I went there often enough to try just about everything on the menu. You have to get the "Bento Box Dessert Sampler." It includes this little chocolate lava cake that will, as my friend Scott so aptly said, "Make you sweat behind your knees." It is that good!! Oh my... Go hungry, because the food is served up family-style and you'll want to try everything you see. There are two locations that I know of, one in midtown, and one on the Upper West Side. The one in Midtown tends to be rather crowded, but the one on the UWS is a little more roomy and less crazy. It also has a private upstairs party room (I had my 30th birthday party there, it was great, they were very accomodating). Happy Dining!!

Not so touristy place in Times Square

Thought it would just be a terrible tourist attraction because of the Times Square location. It wasnt. Decor was fun, if not a little over the top. Food was good. Although, I had the filet and aspargus, which really didn't have that much asparagus, and the filet was a little overcooked. Luckily, cause of the sauce it wasn't try at all. MarciAnn was our waitress. I think she is new to NYC. Not jaded at all. She was very pleasant and attentive.
