A sleekly colorful yet soothing design scheme informs this bi-level nouvelle Vietnamese restaurant, where the lemon-lime walls are outdone only by the high-backed tangerine chairs. Fresh flowers and a reclining Buddha dictate relaxation on the upper level, while a small reflection pool generates ripples of tranquility downstairs. The menu attempts the same seamless, easygoing balance between Vietnamese classics such as Saigon noodles and European staples such as duck confit. In the final analysis, however, Safron's so-so ceviche can't compare with its vigorously seasoned Eastern dishes such as bo luc lac (tender, sweet, and tangy teriyaki-glazed beef) and grilled tofu (brightly infused with lemongrass). Sometimes it's best to stick with what you know.
Lunch SpecialsThe lunchbox specials, ranging from $7.50 to $10, come bento-box style and include a choice of entrée, noodles, rice, salad, and a spring or summer roll.
Recommended DishesBo luc lac, $18; grilled lemongrass tofu, $14
