This small corner Japanese spot sports a cozy dining room, a formidably extensive menu, and free hot sake with dinner. Locals perch at the sushi bar in back or pair up at two-tops amidst twinkling Christmas lights and wrought-iron sculptures. Notably fresh sashimi and sushi comes à la carte, with an additional five to seven fresh-catch offerings scrawled on the board per night. Rolls start at $5.75; large orders make the voyage from bar to table in large wooden fishing-boat replicas. Fried rolls like the Tiffany, stuffed with tempura crab and avocado, arrive warm from their freshly cooked fillings, and fusion riffs, such as the Lobster Mango with asparagus, are equally popular. For bigger parties, four group-platter options include chef's-choice rolls, sushi, and sashimi starting at $40.25. A hibachi-grill menu offers prime rib and filet mignon, and donburi rice bowls have options like chicken curry or katsu. A lengthy selection of hot starters are equally well executed; the housemade vegetable gyoza are outstanding.
