This Italian-foods retail store turns into a red-hot dining destination at night with the occasional crooner providing entertainment between the antipasti and the secondi. If terrific food and occasional tasting menus aren’t enough to lure you out to industrial Queens, factor in the discounts on olive oil, balsamic vinegar, cheese, and cured meats galore. — Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld

I have had some amazing food in this restaurant but there is a waiter there who is the biggest idiot in the world. He is beyond rude and I think someone else here posted about him. The other waiter I've had was nice but seemed to disappear for long periods of time. I really have had some delicious food at Sapori D'Ischia but if I did go back (it's walking distance from my house), I would refuse to have that waiter again.
I have seen people bring their children at lunch time but this place has some attitude and I wouldn't want to have that pressure.
I love Piccolo Venizia and Trattoria L'Incontro, this place has some things that are better than those two restaurants, but the service at SD doesn't come anywhere near their service.
We went there based on a friend's recommendation. We ended up having the limited Valentine's menu since there was no other option. The dining room charms as you arrive, even though it's location has a lot to be desired. We were seated within a few minutes of our reservation. The waiter was polite and courteous yet aloof (it was difficult to find him throughout the night). We decided to stay based upon the number of great reviews of the food even though the limited menu. The dinner began with a single scallop - very good. Next the lobster risotto arrived which was too firm and bland. The main course (fillet) arrived significantly undercooked - raw (all three orders). When they were sent back, they came out looking like charcoal briquettes. The dessert appeared to be out of a chocolate pudding can. At 100 per person and a limited menu, this restaurant failed miserably to live up to its (unfounded?) reputation or compete with the local pizzeria.
