Profile

If you can’t tell your poriyal from your pachadi or your koottu from your special kuzhambu, you’re not alone. Our waiter was at a loss, too, but that didn’t detract from our enjoyment of the subtly spiced variations-on-a-dal theme of the south-Indian thali at Saravanaas, the new Curry Hill branch of an international vegetarian chain. Thalis, round metal trays ringed by an assortment of small metal bowls, are the ultimate combination plate, and a great way to experience the spartan restaurant’s satisfying vegetarian fare. Dosas are another: seasoned crêpes made from fermented rice and lentil flours, filled with mashed spiced potatoes and onions, or raisins and nuts. The starch theme extends to golden lentil griddle cakes that put our sad flapjacks to shame. They’re served with the unrefined lump sugar, called jaggery, instead of maple syrup, and a helping of delectable mung-bean-and-vegetable stew.

Firstly, I love this place. I'm a 21 year old college student, so my standards aren't that high, BUT! Great dirty south indian food! These dosas are made QUICK and have a nice greasy dirty taste. The place is packed, PACKED every night. The service is the worst I've ever seen but they're not rude or mean. Just clumsy and disorganized. Anyway, it can't ruin the delicious food at great cheap prices for me! 20 bucks and I've got two dishes and a pint :D.

POOREST SERVICE

If you dont want to be welcome go here. The waiters treat you as intruders in their gossips Even asking for water is sin. They charge you for extra Cuttney with Dosa or Idli which you have to ask because they serve so little It comes only after you have finished Dosa. To call Waiter again either go to the cash counter or shout.Terrible attitude and service If you can tolerate this go the the stuff is not bad but be prepared for being ignored and charged for small things and dirty floor--HCPant
