Serendipity 3

In a city that’s slowly becoming more like a corporate theme park, there aren’t many restaurants like Serendipity 3 still around. The menu at this nearly 70-year-old American restaurant really runs the gamut, featuring hamburgers, footlong hotdogs with thick-cut fries, country meat loaf, four different pastas, and chicken pot pie. But the real draw are the desserts, including Serendipity’s famous frozen hot chocolate, which you can get straight or in the salted caramel, mint chocolate, and white chocolate varieties, and its outsized sundaes, which still manage to evoke a time when a night out on the town meant hanging out at the drug-store soda fountain.
