Profile

The waterfront Siam Orchid, with its simple décor and attentive waitstaff, represents one of the best Thai options for mostly Bangkok-bare Sheepshead Bay. Basil noodles are fragrant and well sauced but not overly greasy, while the Thai-style fried rice is light, fluffy, and laden with broccoli, peppers, tomatoes, and egg (and, if you like, the meat of your choice). Fiery palates should go for Kang Kai, which balances its sweat-inducing red curry with just the right amount of coconut milk. The lemongrass chicken and the sweet-and-sour Preaw Wan Tofu are good mild choices that hold on to their flavor despite watery sauces. Appetizers like the dry-curry Pia and too-milky Tom Ka Kai soup are filling, so it’s best to head straight for the savory rice and noodle dishes.
