The décor at this Upper East Side diner wisely lacks pretense. Here, wooden tables and chairs and brown leather banquettes make way for a live lobster tank and a smart display of fish on ice. Maritime prints on the walls—clipper ships, lighthouses and old maps—round out the nautical theme. As at any diner, the menu is broad, ranging from omelets to triple decker sandwiches, and from steaks to Greek and Italian specialties. The seven-ounce cheeseburger deluxe, made with freshly ground beef, is juicy, meaty and substantial; fries are nicely crispy. In the seafood department, there are lots of choices, like Chilean sea bass, bluefish, flounder, and salmon—which are delivered fresh daily—and lobster. While the crustacean is a modest pound-and-a-half, it’s capably broiled and pleasing. For dessert, the cheesecake is creamy and not too sweet.
