Profile

There’s been a dearth of Indian spots in Williamsburg, but recent years have brought a few options to Grand Street. Spice Garden’s off-white walls boast pictures of tigers, waterfalls and palm trees, while unfancy white tablecloths and bright lighting seal this restaurant's fate as a mostly delivery and takeout destination. A combination platter solves any indecision over the many appetizer kabob options, all of which are mild in spice, with white meat chicken and flavorfully marinated lamb. The usual chicken/lamb/seafood/vegetable curries fill the bulk of the menu, with some standouts, like the home-style lamb handi, a sauce-y, thin curry filled with vegetables, and the hot crab curry with black peppercorns, fiery red chilis and mustard seeds. The popular chicken tikka masala seems especially Americanized here, with a dark red, almost tomato-sauce base.
